China plans to launch a space telescope
China plans to launch a space telescope, similar to the Hubble Space Telescope, in the coming years, a top scientist said.
The optical field of view will be 300 times as large as that of the Hubble, said Gu Yidong, technology consultant of China’s manned space flight project and academician with the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).
The telescope will also connect to the soon to be launched Chinese space station.
“Currently, China has planned a series of scientific research platforms and facilities for the space station. The optical cabin is the biggest confirmed project so far,” Gu Yidong explained.
China’s Tiangong space station is expected to be completed in 2022 and will improve researchers’ ability to conduct science experiments.
