Stunning view of the Gale Crater
This stunning image of the inner wall of Gale Crater on Mars was taken by NASA’s Curiosity rover on March 16, 2016.
The the component images were captured during a period when there was very little dust or haze in the atmosphere, so conditions were optimal for long-distance imaging.
The rover’s location was on the “Naukluft Plateau” of lower Mount Sharp, inside Gale Crater.
The crater is is 154 km (96 mi) in diameter and estimated to be about 3.5-3.8 billion years old.
